Pastor Lee and Gidget Athey A Measure of Faith

Many of us are asking the same question the Disciples asked Jesus in Luke 17:5 The apostles said to the Lord, “Show us how to increase our faith.”

I believe we have all asked that question before. Remember the time the man with a demon possessed son came to Jesus. When the evil spirit came upon his son, he would have violent seizures and if there was water or fire around he would throw himself into the water or the fire. And this had been going on for a long time. Enemies

And in the conversation with Jesus, the man said, “I believe but help my unbelief.” What this man was saying is what we have all said before. It was something the disciples had said before. Lord we believe but help our faith to grow.

What was Jesus answer to the disciples in Luke 17?

6 The Lord answered, “If you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘May you be uprooted and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you!

Interesting that Jesus uses a small tiny mustard seed here. Could it be that Jesus was saying, it is NOT how much faith you possess but the quality of faith that you do have?

You see the disciple had already demonstrated faith by leaving their families behind and were following Jesus. If they would just use the faith that they already had, they could see God do miracles in their lives.

What Jesus was encouraging them to do and He would encourage us as well, use the faith you already have and believe God for His power to be demonstrated in your life.

Let us pray

Lord, help us to realize that each one of us has a measure of faith. Help us to put that faith to use to believe that You provide for us through this pandemic.  In your name, Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Lee & Gidget Athey
