Pastor Lee and Gidget AtheyLightness and Darkness

When you are in a national crisis, everything can seem so dark. The news is dark. Politics is dark. Social Media is dark. And with all this going on around us, we can be tempted to shake our fists at God and cry, “Where are you in all this darkness? We need light!” Lightness and Darkness

I wonder what God would say back? He would probably say, “Oh ye of little faith, You are the light.” Here is why I say that:

Matthew 5:14-16

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

In the middle of the darkness, we are the light. Here is the thing, the greater the darkness the greater the light shines. Here is what we all know about darkness, it doesn’t matter how dark you make a room, light just one candle and watch the light scatter the darkness.

The reason God has us here is to shine in moments like these. How do we shine? Not by our words but by our deeds. Our actions of love during this time are shining brightly in the darkness.

I love hearing stories about churches that are feeding children bag lunches on the weekend and others are handing out free groceries. Some are helping at food banks and shelters. That is the church being the light.

But remember you and I are the light too. Think about how you can make your light shine brightly during this time.

Let us pray!

Blessings,
