Pastor Lee and Gidget Athey Anchor Down

Hebrews 6:19-20 Anchor Down

19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, 20 where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.

Nothing like Saturdays in the south and college football. I love learning about different college traditions. Let me give you one you may not know.

The University of Vanderbilt is known as the Commodores. After every Vandy touchdown, they blow a horn they call “The Admiral.”

But the anchor is the real symbol for the University. At every home game they “Drop the Anchor” at mid-field before the start of the game. After each Vandy first down, the students yell, “Anchor Down.” The anchor is their symbol of unity and strength. When Vandy students greet each other, they often say, “Anchor Down.”

Maybe as a church our war cry today should be, “Anchor Down.” This verse reminds us we need to anchor down to the hope we have in Christ.

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.

What is this hope? We have Jesus Christ who is our High Priest making intercession on our behalf today. When you got Jesus praying for you then there is no need to let the storms of life blow you away. Anchor down and find your strength in Christ alone.

Join us tomorrow at First Assembly of God Easley SC Facebook page at 10am as we continue talking about Walking with God.

Let us pray!

Blessings,

Pastor Lee & Gidget Athey
